A woman has been charged with stealing more than $400,000 from the nursing home where she worked for more than 10 years. Officers with the State Bureau of Investigation arrested the 46-year-old, on Wednesday after she was indicted by the county grand jury on six counts of theft. Of these counts, three were over $60,000, two counts were over $10,000 and one count was over $1,000.

In December 2008, the nursing home discovered that the woman, a bookkeeper, had been cashing checks intended to cover patient costs and keeping the money, investigators said. She was fired shortly thereafter. An internal investigation and audit at the nursing home revealed that the thefts affected 70 resident accounts.
