Nursing Home Facility Fined Following Patient's Morphine Overdose
A nursing home facility has been fined more than $3,000 after an improper medication administration. According to a report, a physician at the facility ordered 5 milligrams of morphine to be administered to a patient. A nurse administered 50 milligrams of morphine to the patient after misreading the dosage. read the story
The patient was thereafter administered Narcan, a nasal spray which can potentially reverse effects of an opioid overdose. The facility’s administrator stated in an interview, “Immediately after the incident, the center conducted a root cause investigation to help determine any opportunities to lessen the chance of future occurrences.” For more, read the story.
