Nursing Home Patient Files Lawsuit For Negligence Leading To Foot Amputation
A lawsuit has been filed against a nursing home facility for allowing a patient to suffer infection to the point amputation was required. The patient was admitted to the nursing home facility following a surgery on her ankle. The physician's order required the surgical site be kept clean.
The patient had a nurse friend who smelled a foul odor upon visiting the patient at the nursing home. She asked for scissor to undress the wound. She found the bone protruding along with the screws from the surgery. The patient was discharged to the hospital due to her wounds. The infection was so deep, the patient's foot had to be amputated.
The lawsuit blames “understaffing, failure to supervise, failure to adequately train staff upon information and belief, and inadequate corporate policies and procedures.” For more, read the story.
