Nursing Home Patient Loses Retirement Due To Embezzlement
A nursing home embezzlement scam investigation has ended with the suspect receiving a 30 year jail sentence. The suspect befriended a nursing home patient while offering crafts at the facility. The nursing home patient appointed the suspect power-of-attorney when she suffered a stroke. Over time the suspect drained more than $240,000 out of the patient's account.
The result of the drained funds caused the patient to have to continually reduce her level of accommodations due to an inability to afford her previous accommodations. The suspect used the funds for various reasons, one being a romance scam, sending money to a remote country. The suspect received more than the maximum recommended sentence due to the severity of life altered for the patient and a prior record. For more, read the story.
