  • Jury Finds Skilled Nursing Facility Responsible for a Patient’s Fall-Related Injuries

    A jury recently determined that a nursing home facility was responsible for the pain and suffering during one of its patients’ final days alive. While one nurse aide was changing the victim’s bed sheets, the victim fell from the bed and sustained serious head injuries.   • Nursing Home Staff Neglected to Perform CPR on Multiple Residents, Despite Facility Policy

    One nursing home prompted an investigation by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (“CMS”) after two patients died under staff care. According to records from CMS, neither patient had a Do Not Resuscitate order and no advance directive.   • Family of a Victim of Nursing Home Neglect is Counter-sued for Unpaid Medical Expenses

    A nursing home that acknowledged legal responsibility for the untimely death of one elderly patient is now counter-suing the family of the deceased for his unpaid expenses. A jury has already awarded $1 million for the family of the victim from the lawsuit that was filed against the nursing home. Senators are pushing the creation of “elder death review teams” in their state’s judicial circuits in hopes of eradicating instances of elder abuse.     A lawsuit is born following an incident in 2018 where an elderly woman perished from alleged nursing home negligence.   • One State’s Attorney General Initiates a State-wide Investigation of Nursing Homes

    One patient’s tragic story at a nursing center initiated an investigation of nursing homes in one state. The incident began when a caretaker of a skilled nursing facility neglected to turn on a patient’s bed alarm, permitting the patient to get up and walk unsupervised.
