Nursing Homes Face Greater Spotlight After Patient Deaths
For-profit nursing homes now face more focus after eight patients died in one nursing home. The patients died from extreme heat conditions when air conditioning was not running after a hurricane. The hospital responded with a mass casualty protocol after receiving the third patient from the same facility.
The hospital called 50 emergency workers to service the patients. 150 patients were evacuated with severe dehydration and other heat-related symptoms. For more, read the story.
