Severe Neglect in Nursing Home Leads to Investigation
An unidentified nursing home is currently being investigated by the sheriff's office on a possible incident of elderly neglect.. According to a sheriff’s office report, and 86-year-old man was found by his daughter on Tuesday at the home slumped over in a wheel chair. A nurse at the facility told the woman that her father had been in that position since earlier in the evening and no one had assessed his condition.
The daughter called 911 after being unsuccessful in trying to help her father sit upright. The man was brought the hospital, where nurses discovered he was wearing three soiled diapers and had fecal matter running down his legs. The man also had what appeared to be a rash that was red and possibly infected around his genital and buttock areas.
A staff member at the hospital said it appeared the man had not been washed in days.
The man also had a small bruise on his chin and his glasses were broken. The daughter told investigators she was never informed of any incident involving her father or how he was injured at the nursing home. For more, read the story.
